Weight Reducing Recipes

When it comes to weight loss, there is no dearth of alternatives that one can choose from in this day and age. The problem though, is to distinguish between what works and what does not. The good thing is that there are various diets that actually work, and one such diet is the Paleolithic diet, also commonly referred to as the Paleo diet.

The Paleolithic diet gets its name from the Paleolithic era, the time when our kind lived in caves. This is when human beings basically hunted and gathered their food, and this is the reason that this diet is also referred to as the hunter-gatherer diet. Following this diet is believed to help the follower lose weight, and this is basically because all the ingredients that go in a Paleolithic recipe are completely natural.

As opposed to many diets wherein the dieter is required to focus on particular food groups, thus is not the case with the Paleolithic diet. Paleo recipes incorporate almost all food groups, while refraining from the use of preservatives and anything that has been processed.

Foods that Paleo Recipes Include and Exclude:

As mentioned above, Paleo recipes incorporate a wide variety of foodstuff. The very basis of the Paleolithic diet is to include foodstuff that could be found during the Paleolithic period, and this is before the time that farming and rearing of animals came into the picture. Therefore, foods like potatoes, beans, grains, and dairy products are found missing from Paleo recipes.

Oils are also largely avoided, and when used, they’re generally restricted to oils derived from fruits like avocados and olives, or nuts like macadamia, hazelnut, and almond. When it comes to meat, preference is given to the meat of wild game, and since this isn’t particularly easy to come by, grass-fed meat is the next best alternative. Bone marrow and organ meats are also recommended. Fish, again, is best when caught wild. For other foodstuff, organic is the way to go.

Paleolithic Diet Weight Loss Recipes:

The Paleolithic diet is well spread, and recipes include soups, starters, main courses, and deserts. Given below are a couple of recipes that can help you in getting started.

Egg and Turkey Salad with Satayed Almond Sauce:

For the Salad: Turkey breasts – 2 (steamed)

Boiled eggs – 4 (cut into small pieces)

Carrots – 2 (cut into small pieces)

Red bell pepper – 2 (diced)

Red and green lettuce – 2 cups

For the Sauce: Garlic – 4 cloves (crushed)

Onions – 2 (grated)

Olive oil – 2 tablespoons

Coconut cream and almond butter – (half cup each)

Paprika – as per taste

Preparation: To make the sauce start by heating the olive oil in a pan. Next, fry the garlic and the onion on low heat until the mixture turns golden brown. Add the coconut cream and almond butter and stir continuously till the mixture thickens. Turn off the heat and add the paprika. When this mixture cools down, you are required to drain off the excess oil. Mix the ingredients for the salad well. To serve, plate the salad and top it with the almond sauce.

Roasted Duck with Vegetables:

Ingredients: Duck – 1 (medium sized)

Garlic – 4 cloves (crushed)

Onions – 3 (chopped)

Broccoli – 2 cups

Carrots – 2 cups

Tomatoes – 2 (finely diced)

Olive oil – (to be used sparingly)

Salt and black pepper – To taste

Thyme and parsley leaves – To taste

Preparation: Start by preheating your oven to 200oF. Make a mixture of the salt, black pepper, thyme, and parsley. Coat the meat well with this mixture. Use a skillet and heat the oil (just enough to coat the bottom), and do this till you see smoke. Once you see the smoke, place the duck on the skillet. The duck needs to be turned around till all the sides have a good crust. Then, transfer the duck onto the dish you intend to cook it in. Add the vegetables so that they surround the duck. Cook in the oven for half an hour and then remove it to drain out any excessive fat. Cook again for 40 minutes. Once done, the juices that are left behind can be cooked further to serve as gravy.

These are only a couple of Paleolithic recipes that can get you started with your weight loss, and with the internet serving as a big pool of resources, you can easily find many more such recipes rather easily.
